What is the difference between a Personal and a Standard license?
- Both license types offer the same product and feature set and allow for commercial usage. However, there are differences in terms of who can purchase them and how they can be used.
- A Personal license can only be purchased by individuals, whereas a Standard license is intended for companies and organizations. With a Personal license, ownership is tied to the individual who purchased it and the license cannot be transferred to someone else. In contrast, a Standard license is owned by the company or organization, and they can decide which employees have access to the license. For each user, a separate Standard license key must be purchased. If necessary, a license key can be transferred from one user to another within the organization.
Is there a discount when purchasing multiple licenses?
- We offer volume discounts for Standard licenses, with the following quantity tiers:
- 2-4 licenses: 10% discount
- 5-9 licenses: 20% discount
- 10-19 licenses: 25% discount
- 20+ licenses: 30% discount
Is the licensing perpetual or subscription-based?
- Our licensing is perpetual, which means that once you purchase a license, you can use it indefinitely. In addition, you are entitled to receive support and updates for one year after the initial purchase.
- If you would like to continue receiving support and updates beyond the first year, you can extend the support period for an additional year at any time. This means that you will continue to receive new versions and support, similar to a subscription model.
- However, the advantage of our perpetual licensing model is that even if you decide not to extend the support period any further, you will still be able to use the versions of the software that you have already paid for. This means that you can choose to upgrade only when it makes sense for you, rather than being forced to upgrade due to a subscription-based model.
What does the "per-seat" licensing mean? Is it based on users or devices?
- "Per-seat" licensing means that each user who needs to use the software must have a valid license. The licensing is based on the number of users, not devices.
- However, when a license key is activated, it becomes associated with the device (computer) on which it was activated.
Can I use my license key on multiple devices?
- Yes, you may activate your license key on up to two devices simultaneously. However, please note that this option is not enabled by default.
- To enable activation on multiple devices, please send an email to support@codartis.com, providing your license key and proof of purchase.
Can I transfer my activated license to a new device?
- Yes, you can transfer your activated license to a new device.
- To do so, please send an email to support@codartis.com, providing your license key, proof of purchase, and the name of the device from which you would like to deactivate your license. Once we receive your request, we will remove the activation from the specified device, allowing you to activate your license on a new device.
Can I transfer my license key to another person?
- If you have a Personal license, please note that it cannot be transferred to another person. The license is owned by the individual who purchased it and is non-transferable.
- If you have a Standard license, you can transfer the license to another user within your company or organization. To do so, please send an email to support@codartis.com, providing the license key you wish to transfer and proof of purchase.
How can I extend the initial 1-year support period, what are the costs, and what benefits does it provide?
- If you extend your support period, you will be eligible to receive support and new versions of the tool for an additional year.
- To extend your support period, please send an email to sales@codartis.com, providing your license key and proof of purchase.
- The prices for extending the support period are as follows:
- Personal license: $39/seat/year
- Standard license: $49/seat/year
- Please note that these prices are in USD and do not include sales tax / VAT, which may vary depending on your country's tax rules.
Do I have to renew my license every year?
- No, you do not have to renew your license every year. Our licensing model is perpetual, which means that once you purchase a license, you can use it indefinitely.
- However, it is important to note that if you choose not to extend the support period after the initial 1 year, then you will no longer be eligible for updates and support. In this case we recommend that you turn off automatic updates for the tool in Visual Studio.
Will my license work with future versions of Visual Studio?
- We will do our best to support future versions of Visual Studio as soon as possible. However, please note that upgrading to a future version of Visual Studio will require a version upgrade of Codartis Diagram Tool as well.
- If you purchased the tool within the last year or have extended your support period (as described above), then you will be eligible for any version upgrades necessary to maintain compatibility with future versions of Visual Studio.
Is there a student or academic discount?
- Yes, we offer a free Academic license for students and faculty members of accredited educational institutions. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in an accredited educational program that takes one or more years of full-time study to complete.
- To apply for an Academic license, please send an email to sales@codartis.com and provide proof of your status as a student or faculty member (e.g. ISIC/ITIC card, student's/teacher's ID, or other official document).
